JoMarie Johnson
JoMarie Johnson gave her heart to the Lord Jesus by the tender age of nine and that heart has desired first and foremost to serve Him through a multitude of creative outlets. While growing up, she took six years of dance lessons that included tap and ballet but extended into other fun forms of dance as well. Excelling in art as well as other academics during high school, by her senior year she was given the privilege of creating her own independent course of study. Teachers often called upon her to tutor students who needed extra help in a variety of subjects, so she was often found engaged in that activity. After graduation, her love of animals kept her busy as well as the responsibilities of family and motherhood. As her children grew in size (and number!) the need to teach also grew. She taught Sunday School classes that her own children were in, using innumerable creative ideas to illuminate the Bible stories and principles, giving students and their families a tangible reminder of each lesson.
When her youngest child finally went off to kindergarten, the need to do even more teaching actually made her arms hurt! She then taught at a Christian nursery school, and became head teacher. During this time she continued to teach Sunday School year round, as well as planning and teaching at Vacation Bible Schools every summer, where her divinely inspired creativity continued to help young people remember the things of God. This gift also contributed to other facets of her children's ministry. This included children's Christmas, Lenten and Easter programs and pageants, giving the "Children's Sermon" during worship, team teaching at Spirit Alive renewal programs in her home church and at other churches, in being on the Worship Committee and in carrying out the duties of being an ordained Deacon.
One of her greatest joys is doing a clown ministry with children and adults alike. This unique form of ministry (which actually began as a way to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ) is yet another way in which JoMarie Johnson uses her creative gifts to glorify the Lord.
During this past summer, she had the opportunity to work with Debi Wood and many other dance students at Summer Dance Camps. Once again, she found delight in teaching children creative ways to express themselves, and their love for God.
She looks forward to working with the children of Guiding Steps and the Praise Dance Company!
